About
Insomnia is much more than not being able to sleep every now and again. Insomnia is rarely ‘cured’ by taking a relaxing bath before bed or avoiding coffee after 4pm. Insomnia can mean little to no sleep on a long term basis. Insomnia is misunderstood. People don’t understand the consequences of insomnia – the frustration, the loneliness, the desperation.
We want to change all this.
We feel that the best way to bring more attention to insomnia is by bringing insomniacs together. That’s what our online community for insomniacs is all about. Our community is genuine and open. We don’t want to dwell on the negative aspects of insomnia – our community is a place where insomniacs can have fun and make new friends. It’s also a place where you can seek advice from people who understand what you’re going through.
We can’t succeed without your help. Please follow us on twitter. Subscribe to this blog by RSS or email. Consider joining our online community – to read the insomnia sections, you’ll need to apply for membership.
If you’re not ready to join us, please just continue to read what we have to say and tell others about us. We don’t want to be all doom and gloom. We need to be respectful, but we want to have a little bit of fun at the same time.
Now, it’s over to you.

I am 29 years old and have suffered from chronic insomnia for the past 10 years of my life. I have struggled with chronic insomnia since I turned 21. Like many I have been on most medications and combinations of medications and have found many helpful and many less helpful. My insomnia is not related to what time I go to sleep, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome or any other physical cause – It is most certainly biological in nature. At the present I am not getting adequate rest on my current medications and have exhausted most of my options (I’ve been on most antidepressants, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and combinations thereof). I am now looking into possibly trying Xyrem (which is difficult to get prescribed and carries its own set of risks). If I cannot get adequate relief from this condition soon then I may finally have to go on disability (and find another line of work that isn’t 9 to 5). I would very much like to work on starting a movement towards research for insomnia to help find out the exact cause and gain validation for millions of those that suffer from it in secrecy. I have so much more to say but I have to get to bed now and hope to hear back from someone soon.
David, I’ll drop you an email. I think you’d benefit from joining our online community for insomniacs.
