Ever heard of bacopa? Nor had we – until just now. Bacopa is a creeping plant found in the marshes of Southeast Asia that has a long history of use in India. It’s used primarily as a treatment for epilepsy, asthma, rheumatism, heart failure and insomnia. It’s also thought to enhance cognitive abilities and protect against dementia and memory loss.
Studies looking at the effectiveness of bacopa have been mixed and most have centered on its use as a memory enhancer rather than an insomnia cure. Don’t expect miracles, then – but bacopa could be worth exploring if you’re set on a natural insomnia cure.
