Bed manufacturers wage war on insomnia

1 December 2009 in insomnia cures,insomnia information

Bed manufacturers are trying to combat insomnia by changing the way they make their beds. Their ‘weapons of war’ include anti-sweat mattresses, organic bedding and lightweight futons.

This all sounds a bit gimmicky to us. We accept that some people may struggle to sleep because their beds are uncomfortable but are sceptical that new ‘bed technology’ is the answer. If your bed is uncomfortable, a new mattress built with ‘traditional technology’ should do you just fine.

We think the article is a good demonstration of how little people know and understand about insomnia (and we’re no experts ourselves).

Here’s a bit of weirdness: at one point in time, the only way I could sleep was to keep changing where I slept. This included changing between beds, sofas, and the floor, as well as changing rooms. It was insanity because I was also using a sound machine, and ear plugs (the machine blocks noises from outside the house, and the ear plugs block my husband’s snoring). When I realized that I was only getting about four hours of sleep, I just went back to not sleeping in our bedroom.

Thanks for sharing, Ursula – very interesting. I wonder why the change of scenery helped you sleep – any theories?
