Biofeedback allows people to improve their health by controlling body processes such as heart rate and blood pressure. Although biofeedback is primarily used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure, headaches and chronic pain, scientific clinical studies have also found it can help insomniacs fall asleep.
As to why biofeedback works, nobody knows for sure. It appears to help relieve conditions that are primarily caused by stress. Consequently, scientists think that relaxation is the key to successful biofeedback therapy.
Of course, not all insomniacs suffer from stress – but many do. If this includes you, you might want to give biofeedback a try – especially if you’re looking for an insomnia cure that doesn’t rely on medication.
