Itching for one of those shiny new Apple iPads? You might want to hold off… or at least think twice. According to the Los Angeles Times, iPads may cause insomnia.
Apparently, the iPad’s liquid crystal display is the culprit – because it emits light, it can inhibit the body’s secretion of melatonin. As we’ve mentioned before, light-emitting devices tell the brain to stay alert and because you’ll typically hold an iPad close to your face, the effect is amplified.
All is not lost for the gadget geeks, though – e-ink readers such as Amazon’s Kindle, the Nook or the Sony Reader aren’t a problem as they don’t emit light. So either ‘downgrade’ your fancy iPad, or read the old fashioned way before going to bed!
