Herbal remedies for insomnia

by Martin Reed on 18 October 2010 in insomnia cures

If you’re looking for a natural insomnia cure, you might want to try the following herbal remedies as shared by Helium:

Valerian root

This is supposed to be one of the most efficient herbal remedies for inducing sleep, but be sure to read our previous blog post:
Is valerian an effective insomnia cure?

Chamomile

Apparently, chamomile is one of the oldest herbal remedies for sleep disorders. Chamomile tea should be prepared with hot (not boiling) water. For best results, drink two cups made from 2 teaspoons of chamomile and 250ml (8.4 oz) of hot water after ten minutes of steeping.

Lavender

One of the best known herbal remedies for insomnia. Only small quantities are needed. See our previous blog post: Maybe your nose can cure your insomnia.

Celery root

Less well known, celery root is said to contain compounds that reduce the concentration of stress hormones. Best when eaten just before going to bed.

Other herbal remedies include lemon, lime flower, passiflora, balm or hops – all of which can be included in a herbal tea. Just don’t go drinking too much before going to bed otherwise you’ll be replacing your insomnia with the repeated calls of nature!

As always, there's more information and advice in our insomnia support forum.
