How will you conquer your insomnia?

2 March 2010 in insomnia cures,insomnia information

Insomnia affects people differently. For some, it’s just a minor distraction. For others, it’s a major obstacle to living a ‘normal life’. There is no single cure for insomnia – it affects people differently, so it’s only natural that a cure that might work for one person does nothing for another.

Having said that, we’d highly recommend you read this blog post by Zachary Burt – it’s a fantastic read. Zachary shares the symptoms of his insomnia and then he tells us how he conquered his insomnia.

Now, just because Zachary’s tips worked for him, it doesn’t mean they’ll work for you – but it’s always worth trying new things. You’ll never find out what works for you unless you try.

In any case, when it comes to suffering from insomnia, it’s always good to be reminded that you aren’t alone.

Strategy/Principle: What really caused my insomnia
An active mind.
Thinking = “the voice in my head”
Quieting the voice = peace = can fall asleep naturally.

That’s my issue exactly, all other thngs being equal. It was obviously true before I had a computer, and always read books at bedtime. If:
•the room is not coool/cold enough
•the legs are not twitching
•the bed and bedding are not comfortable
•I am upset (duh)
•I’m coughing a lot
•something hurts that I can’t relieve
•I’m dizzy or nauseated
•I have a stuffed or runny nose, and can’t breathe well
the active mind can keep me awake.
Masturbation *used* to put me to sleep, 2-person sex kept me awake after.
Toe-to-head gradual relaxation failed because when I got to my head, I couldn’t relax the muscles adequately OR I would get jolted out of the relaxed state by whatever it was that did that to me, leaving me annoyed.
As you may guess, during cold & allergy season, I don’t sleep very well. I am allergic to codeine/vicodin, which is the only prescription ingredient put in cough medicine, so it’s OTC, or a full 8 oz of cheap singlemalt to get the coughing to stop. I’d rather not have the second remedy, and I won’t waste the good stuff.
