A study published at PhysOrg.com has found that children with insomnia may have impaired heart rate variability. Heart rate variability is the beat-to-beat variations of heart rate.
The authors of the study found that the hearts of children are more ‘excitable’ if they suffer from insomnia – if the heart gets too excited, it beats too fast – which isn’t normally a good thing. Children who slept for longer had a healthier heart regulation profile.
This is further evidence that insomnia is serious and needs to be taken more seriously. We sound like a broken record, but until attitudes change, we’ll continue our campaign to improve the awareness, understanding and education of insomnia. We hope you’ll join us.
