There’s a great post from January 2010 over at Confessions of a Serial Insomniac that you should all read (be prepared for strong language).
If you don’t understand the frustration insomniacs often have to deal with when visiting their doctors about their sleep problems, you should read the post. If you’re frustrated with your own doctor and want to be reassured that you aren’t alone, you should read the post.
Of course, some doctors are great – but we’re told almost overwhelmingly that most of the time, doctors just don’t have time for insomnia patients, or don’t take their complaints seriously.
This needs to change. In the meantime, if you’re in the United States and aren’t happy with your doctor, you may like to consider consulting a registered sleep specialist.

Thank you so much for putting me back in touch with Serial Insomniac–I had friended her on Twitter, but quit cold turkey one day months back when I realized it was costing me 6 hrs or more a day, and seriously cutting into my sleep cycle.
Yes, she does use strong language, and that’s how I knew it might be her. What that woman has gone through with her own family, the Paedo, the abuse of her that goes unbelieved by her family, and her “fun” with the NHS stuns me to silence. Reading the letter than you linked to caused my jaw to drop several times. I have subbed to her blog, so I can keep up with her, and offer what support I may, as I did before I fell off Twitter.
