Insomnia may be a side effect of some diet drugs

by Martin Reed on 3 February 2010 in insomnia causes

There seems to be an ever increasing number of diet drugs out there. We’re not here to judge them, or even offer an opinion on them. However, we want to bring this article from Dr. Carrie Jones over at EmpowHER to your attention.

Not only do many diet pills include large amounts of caffeine (no need to explain why that’s unlikely to help you sleep), the appetite suppressant phentermine is also associated with anxiety and insomnia.

Living a healthy lifestyle often improves sleep quality, as does eating the right kind of food. These are probably better alternatives to medication – but if medication is necessary for you, make sure you’re aware of the potential side effects – even if the product is marketed as ‘natural’.
