Insomniacs have talent!

24 November 2009 in insomnia information

We love talking to people via twitter (are you following us yet?). We want to draw your attention to this picture by @Chiwa26 – it’s titled, ‘Thisiswhatinsomniadoestome‘ (we aren’t sure if the lack of spacing is deliberate so we just kept it in).

Is creativity a little-known side effect of insomnia? Do you get creative when awake at night? Maybe we need to hold insomniac talent competitions when our online community launches!

Definitely agree with this! I can spend all day blocked and then as soon as my head hits the pillow and my eyes are staring at the ceiling, the floodgates open.

My theory is that my imagination is related to the same part of my subconscious responsible for filing away the day and cryptically dealing with issues (e.g. dreams about putting DVDs through a polisher with the Mountie from Due South – seriously, what’s that about?) So if it the subconscious is already used to being in crazy/weird mode at that time of night but I’m still conscious, Im suddenly open to a whole world of creative goodness. Heaven help me! :-)

Thanks for sharing, Kik! The fact that insomnia can actually foster creativity for some has to be seen as one of the few advantages of the condition! Have your night-time inspirations created anything amazing (apart from well polished DVDs)?!?
