Is meningeal compression the cause of your insomnia?

27 August 2010 in insomnia causes

In a recent press release, the Neurologic Relief Centers blame meningeal compression (the encroachment or twisting of the spinal cord’s protective layer) for a whole host of symptoms – including insomnia, chronic fatigue, restless leg syndrome and fibromyalgia.

Apparently, any irritation of the meninges can cause nerve fibers to fire irregular pulses to the brain – which are then interpreted as pain, itching, burning, coldness, numbness or other odd feelings. The body may then respond to this irritation with twitching or sudden spasms – which can spark restless leg syndrome and symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

If your insomnia can be traced back to an injury or other traumatic event, perhaps meningeal compression is to blame. Speak to your doctor.
