Regular readers of this blog will know that I believe acupuncture is well worth a try if you want to reduce the symptoms of insomnia.
I recently came across another study that confirmed the positive effects of acupuncture on sleep.
However, this one came with a twist.
120 insomniacs were split into two groups.
One group received acupuncture once per day (if you know your stuff and are curious, the specific points were HT7, PC6 and SP6).
The other group received acupuncture (at acupuncture points GV20, EX-HN1, UB62 and KI6) as well as moxibustion at GV20 and EX-HN1 once per day.
Moxibustion is a Chinese traditional medicine that involves burning dried mugwort near specific points of the body.
The effective rate was found to be 76.3% in those who only received acupuncture. This increased to 87.7% in the group who received acupuncture and moxibustion.
Both groups saw improvements in sleep quality – but the group that received acupuncture with moxibustion saw slightly bigger improvements.
