According to research from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a lack of exposure to natural outdoor light is messing with our biorhythms - especially in teenagers.
The researchers found that inadequate exposure to morning light results in children performing less well in standardized tests and that early school start times and inferior natural lighting in school buildings are to blame.
We’ve written before about one school that saw improved test scores when starting the school day later – perhaps if we can’t encourage schools to start later in the morning, we can at least encourage them to redesign their windows? It could be a small price to pay for healthier, happier kids.
