Sleep monitors for insomnia – more stress, less sleep?

30 December 2009 in insomnia causes

Three students from Brown University have come up with a sleep monitor that supposedly acts as a sleep coach. The Zeo Sleep Monitor measures your brainwaves during the night and in the morning gives you a sleep score and some other data (the video in the article is worth a watch).

We definitely see how these sleep coaches can help people understand how their previous evening’s routine affects their quality of sleep (and empower them to make changes for the better). However, at the same time we’d actually be concerned that having access to so much data might make the whole process of sleeping stressful – hardly the best way to relieve insomnia.

Have you ever tried sleep coaches or other similar devices? What do you think of this one? We’d appreciate your thoughts.
