We felt it was a day for some statistics; so we’re sharing the findings from a recent report that looked at the sleep quality of Canadians.
The research surveyed 2,000 individuals across the country and found that two out of five respondents reported one or more insomnia symptoms at least three times per week in the preceding month.
A fifth of Canadians report that they’re unsatisfied with the quality of their sleep and just over 10% reported all the symptoms that are typically used to diagnose insomnia.
Some other findings:
- Only 13% sought medical advice for their insomnia
- 9.5% of French speakers suffered from insomnia, compared to 14.3% of English speakers
- 5% of Canadians used alcohol to treat their sleep problems
Not much in the way of good news, then – but that’s the typical story with insomnia; a serious condition that’s misunderstood and not taken seriously enough.
