This article from Abbotsford News tells us that sleeping pills aren’t considered an appropriate treatment for chronic insomnia, and argues instead that homeopathic remedies are a better solution.
The article argues that sleeping pills aren’t appropriate because they:
- Have serious side effects that far outweigh their benefits
- Are only moderately effective for insomnia and stop working over time
- Strengthen the belief that the cure for insomnia comes from external factors
- Can lead to physical or psychological dependency
These all sound like valid points – so what’s the homeopathic alternative? Well, the article doesn’t say – apparently you need a unique homeopathic remedy to be prescribed by a homeopath; after all we’re all different, so we all need different treatments.
We aren’t huge fans of sleeping pills as they don’t treat the root cause of your insomnia. However, we accept that for many they are necessary and are often a lifeline so we don’t want to criticize them or those that take them.
That being said, we’d always urge people to explore all other options – including homeopathy. Sometimes it pays to brush your skepticism aside.
