The Helsinki Times recently shared the findings of research undertaken by the University of Helsinki looking for a link between working conditions and insomnia.
The study found that women’s sleeping patterns are most commonly affected by heavy work involving lots of lifting and carrying, whereas men tend to be kept awake primarily from disturbances in their work environment such as loud noise, chemicals and mold.
We found it interesting that strenuous activity was the primary cause of sleep disturbances for women – especially when we’re often told that physical exertion can actually help us sleep.
In any case, if you’re working down that checklist of possible insomnia causes, it may be time to look at your working conditions and make changes – if you can.
