This South American herb may help relieve your insomnia

We've been sharing natural insomnia remedies all week, so let's finish off with another one. Yahoo recently posted an article that listed ten natural ways to get a good night's sleep. We've heard most of them a thousand times before, but one caught our eye: passionflower.

Apparently, passionflower (also known as passiflora) is commonly used throughout South America for help with sleep and relaxation. According to a Dr Teitelbaum, 'a number of studies' have confirmed its calming effect. He recommends a dosage of 90 to 360mg of the extract at bedtime to help relieve insomnia.

Once again, we're seeing treatments aimed at relieving stress and enhancing relaxation being touted as insomnia cures. Unfortunately, not all insomniacs suffer from stress so supplements like these might not help. You should also bear in mind that just because something is 'natural', it doesn't mean it comes without risks or side-effects.

Improve your sleep in two weeks: Over 5,000 insomniacs have completed my free insomnia sleep training course and 97% of graduates say they would recommend it to a friend. Learn more here.

Thanks for sharing – that’s a really useful and interesting link. I removed the actual list you pasted (for copyright reasons) but I recommend readers interested in other herbal remedies take a look at the link you posted. I may even blog about this in the next couple of weeks.

    Speaking of herbs…

While the summary starts out assuming the insomnia is from stress, and talkes about cortisol, it does list some herbs at the end that might affect insomnia from other causes.
