Well, I think the title says it all really, but I thought I would start a thread and get people to talk about films they have seen (old or new) and what they thought of them.

I guess that as I started the thread I should get the ball rolling!

WATCHMEN (18)

It's amazing how many movies have been made about superheroes and sadly most of them have been absolute rubbish, look at movies like Captain America and Batman And Robin (or not, for they are truly awful) and it makes you wonder why they carried on making these movies...

But then, they make some movies that are truly amazing, and Watchmen is one of them.

The movie is set in an "alternate" 1985 and the "Doomsday Clock" (the countdown to nuclear apocalypse) is at 5 to midnight. Superheroes/Masked Vigilantes have been outlawed, but a handful of them still do what they feel is right, including one called Rorschach who narrates the story.

A group of heroes called The Watchmen band together after one of thier own gets killed by being thrown through a reinforced glass window. They look for clues and in the process a plot that put the whole of humanity at stake is uncovered. There are also strains between the group and secrets of the past are uncovered, will the Watchmen be able to save the day?

The movie is based on the epic graphic novel of the same name and is almost as good (even with the changes to the end in the movie)and was an enjoyable movie to watch. the movie is also now available in 3 "flavours"..Standard, Director's Cut and The Ultimate Cut (the latter weighing in at about 3 1/2 hours!).

I really enjoyed this movie and I always see something new each time I watch it. 8/10

Love the topic idea! I was looking at Watchmen on Amazon the other day but decided against it as I'm not hugely into the sci-fi/comic book type of movie. Do you still think it's something people not massively into those genres would enjoy?

A recent film I watched was 'It's Complicated' - it was one of the few films my wife wanted to see that I agreed to watch! It has a great cast of Alex Baldwin, Meryl Streep and Steve Martin and I don't think any description I give can do it justice.

I suppose technically it involves a love triangle - Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep are a divorced couple who flirt with the idea of getting back together, whilst Steve Martin and Meryl Streep develop a new relationship.

Away from that stale sounding description, the film is actually rather original and very funny. The dialogue is brilliant, and it's completely unlike any typical 'romance' film I've seen recently.

I'd highly recommend it.

I might have to see that one, then. I recently saw Law Abiding Citizen and thought it was great. 2012 sucked major balls, as did Angels and Demons, I thought. Of course, I read the book first; that makes a huge difference. I also adored Inglorious Basterds.

I'm not sure to be honest, I know my Cuddle Bunny wouldn't want to watch Watchmen, she hates all those "super-heroey" movies! I think I'd recommend The Dark Knight more than Watchmen for people not massively into the genre.

Inglorious Basterds is awesome, and was the first film I got on Blu-Ray

I am yet to see a movie that I preferred to the book. It's just not the same - at the end of the day, when you watch a film based on a book you're watching someone else's interpretation. I think that's why it's impossible to please the bookworm!

I thought 2012 was OK - the story was dull, but it was alright to switch the brain off and just look at the scenery for a couple of hours. Similar opinion on Avatar.

I really enjoyed The Dark Knight, so maybe I'll give Watchmen a try. The trailer for The Wolfman looked good - I'm tempted to see that, too!

Agreed - that was a great film! Brad Pitt is such a good, versatile actor. It could have been so easy for him to end up typecast, but he managed to avoid that. Thank goodness!

Yeah, the special effects were good. And I was on the edge of my seat during the airplane section. Jeebus. lol, The Hurt Locker was good, too. and Up was the best kid movie I've seen in a long time.

I see we have got to the fight of book vs movie...books will always win.

Its like with the Twilight saga (I await the slamming for watching what is considered "girly movies"!! ) I refuse to read the books or listen to the audio books (I dont read too much due to concentration issues) because it will ruin the movies for me..although my flatmate has read the books, and she comments on when things are right or wrong in the movie!

Oh, Lord. Twilight. *sighs* I read all the books because I have a child who's starting to get into things like that (and I like vampires/werewolves/aliens/etc), and I've got to tell you: One of the last books (can't remember which, maybe the last) made me blush from the scenes, and it takes a heck of a lot to make me blush. The characters in the movies get on my nerves, but I read them differently than they act.

It's the same with the Sookie Stackhouse novels (now True Blood on HBO). The actress portraying her annoys me so much, but I like her in the books. God help me, my eight year old wants to watch/read Twilight. I made her start with the Goosebumps series. lol, can't keep her at bay forever though.

The Hurt Locker took me by surprise. I saw it on the plane on my last trip back to the UK and it was much better than I thought it would be. Portrays the conflict in Iraq from a new angle, which was interesting.

Up was great - as much of a visual treat as Avatar, I'd say (well... nearly)!

My favorite movie is Dragonheart, I loved it as a child and still do, I loved how Bowen has some struggle with his belief in the code and then prevails at the end.

I'm not big on movies I liked Angels and Demons just because of the Anti Matter and how I was able to explain to my parents and friends what anti matter is and what it can do.

I liked Law abiding Citizen, was a great concept, hated the ending.

I don't like twilight, I've seen the movies, and read the books, terrible pieces of literature and I could do a better job.
It's easy to write about vampires and werewolves since it's one of the biggest things teens love, throw some vampire in who's got a hard shell and a girl thinks she can open him up and BAM millions of dollars due to the hearts of little girls loving the idea of that type of romance, then they get it in real life and don't like how it works out.

Word! I thought to myself while reading those, "Why would someone want a guy who stalks, belittles, is controlling, and a douchebag all rolled into one supposedly good looking package?" It just floors me. Why is it such a phenomenon?

What happened to scary vampires, like Dracula? Isn't the potential of a tortuous and imminent death supposed to be part of the allure?

Odd you should say that, if there is one thing that annoys me with the Twilight Saga is they have sparkly skin...and NO TEETH!!

The last half decent vampire/Dracula movie I've seen was 30 Days of Night...

Sparkly skin is for sure a no-go, thank you very much. I prefer my vampires in the dark, with fangs, and scaring the pee out of me. I love a good scare, except for the Grudge.

That movie made me leave my lights on at night for a full week. lol

Did you see the most awesome Japanese version, or the second rate US remake?

I went with my flatmate to see the remake, it scared her so much she wanted to leave the cinema! She refuses to watch the Japanese one...

I saw the second rate US one. I can't bring myself to watch any Japanese horror films, especially alone and none of my girlfriends will come watch them with me.
