The King's Speech was pretty good...granted a slow roller, but it had to be I feel.

Watched Unstoppable last week, pretty good movie kinda predictable and based on a true story....flatmate got bored in first 30 mins though!

Watched Insidious last night as everyone was telling me how scary it was. I have to say, it wasn't scary at all and I am still searching for the elusive scary horror movie.

It's annoying to be honest...but I'm not sure if it is a case of society basically getting desensitized to gore and violence (prime example, watch the news, you'll usually see something that looks pretty grim, and it's pretty much an every day thing...or watch the charity begging commercials which are supposed to be distressing, call me callous, but after a while you get used to it.).

Perhaps due to the violent World we live in, there will never ever be such a thing any more.

Well the only film that ever scared me was Blair Witch Project when that was first released. I don't think gore or violence is scary anymore as we've been desensitized to it, like you say. Real fear is the unknown and that's what horror movies should play on, rather than shock/gore/violence.

Just my 2 cents ;)

Valid point, this is why Japenese horror is so good...the mess with your head B)

So recommend me a good Japanese horror movie (not the ring though).

Um...NOT The Ring? Boring lol

OK...um, let's see....Ju-On The Grudge and Black Water are good, although they do not scare me I liked them. One Missed Call isn't too bad either.

However if you have seen the US versions of these movies, it kinda ruins it.

Went and saw Captain America this week, wasn't too bad...and I'm looking forward to The Avengers next May!!

I've also opened up a US iTunes account and downloaded a couple of movies as they are cheaper than UK...currently got Red Riding Hood and Skinwalkers for $22....it's just annoying that I'm getting charged a further $5 for the credit I buy...wish there was a better way....

Next film I'm hoping to see is Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I want to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, too. Maybe this weekend I'll get out to see it.

I've just finished watching Red Riding Hood (thankyou iTunes US, I got it a fortnight earlier than UK!!!) and thought it was quite good, although it could have been better.
It's not really based on the faerie tale either, although there are a few nods toward it. Good thriller with romantic undertones.

Hmmm, I'm back here...square eyes much? :)

Over the last few days I've been catching up on movies downloaded (need testing to make sure they work...that's my excuse any!! ;) )

CHOOSE - A bit of an odd movie really, about a crazy person who gives people gory choices, and either way the outcome isn't good (for example someone was given a choice between sight and beauty...lose their sight or be disfigured). It was ok, not a bad movie to switch the brain off too (like most horror I've watched).
JENNIFER'S BODY - Hmmm, an ok movie...a demon possesses this girl and she kills the boys who lust after her. Could have been better but could have been much worse!

There are a few more but my concentration isn't excellent for me to write it all...sorry folks!!

Finally saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes this week. Overall, I enjoyed it. I thought it plodded along a bit, but I think they did an OK job of explaining how we got to the point in the original movies. What I don't get is if the apes are so advanced, why (in the original movies) do they live so primitively?

I still have not seen that yet...may try next week if I feel up to it.

On my Canadian iTunes account I downloaded the following movies...

Kill Bill Volumes 1&2
Mum And Dad
The Crazies (2010 version)
Resident Evil
Drag Me To Hell (Unrated)

Not a bad way to spend £40!

Also, if anyone here is in the UK and on the Orange cellphone network you may be interested to hear you can get a "free" movie rental off iTunes....although you do not choose the movie, Orange choose a specific movie each week (for example this week is The Wrestler) but if it is a movie you have not watched and want to (or don't own and want to watch again!!) then texting for a code (which costs you costof text and 35p!!) isn't too bad...and to think you could watch 4 different movies for under £3!!

Hobo With a Shotgun.
I normally don't like gory movies, but that movie is just so awesome, in so many ways.

I must admit this does look good, and hope to watch it soon. Rutger Hauer is a great actor, thought The Hitcher and Blind Fury were great movies.

I have recently watched the first 4 Fast And Furious movies, I buy my movies as downloads now, and was able to pick up the DVD boxset with downloads of all 4 movies for £10, saving me £18 on the downloads if I'd bought them from the iTunes store!

I just watch all my movies on 1channel.ch
The url of that site changes frequently though. For...certain reasons.
But yes! Watch it! :D Just be warned, there's a lot of blood, and you end up seeing a lot of people from the inside out. (yay intestines!)

That's fine, I like gore in movies...tends to make me crave raw liver though...

You don't really get any good films any more.

My favourite film has always been Zulu, and still is, I can watch it over and over. :D

Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes other week, and it was alright. Didn't live up to the hype but, it was enjoyable and a nice watch for any POTA fans.

As for horrors, I don't think they even make them anymore do they? They only make slasher films now'a'days. Rawr I'm a bad man and I'm going to slice you up. Aaahh I'm a stereotyped American cheerleading teenager and I'm going to run around screaming for half for the film as my airhead friends get stabbed and sliced and slashed and smashed and then the guy who I initially hate but fancies me is going to save me and then I'm going to fall inlove with them and then oh noez he gets his head chopped off and I scream some more but pluck up some courage out of nowhere to fight back and yay The End.

Same old boring tosh I've seen a million times.

There hasn't been a good horror since the original Exorcist IMO.
Oi oi.
