We already know that insomnia may prevent you from getting health insurance. We also know that insomnia is often poorly covered on most health plans - often due to limitations on the provision of cognitive behavioral therapy.
We recently heard of one insurance company that is now offering insurance coverage for sleep centers and laboratories. Philadelphia Insurance now offers coverage for sleep centers to help diagnose and treat sleep disorders including insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and narcolepsy.
Of course, just because coverage is being offered doesn't necessarily mean you'll be eligible - particularly if you're already an insomniac. That being said, any positive move made by the healthcare industry to cover those suffering from insomnia is welcome.
Let's just hope we see other insurance companies expand their coverage for insomnia and other sleep disorders, too - and fingers crossed we'll also start seeing more coverage for cognitive behavioral therapy.
