If you love having insomnia, keep on binge drinking

We already know that you shouldn't be drinking alcohol to help you sleep (but a taste may help).

Now, new research has found that frequent binge drinking can lead to insomnia, particularly in older adults.

The study in question involved almost 5,000 participants over the age of 55. Each individual reported the number of days in which they drank four or more drinks in a single session over the previous three months.

The responses were then used to calculate the average number of binge drinking days per week.

The study found that those who binge drink more than twice per week had an 84% greater chance of suffering from an insomnia symptom compared to non-binge drinkers.

Interestingly, binge drinking fewer than two days per week didn't have such a huge association with insomnia symptoms.

So maybe binge drinking is OK after all - if done in moderation.

Quite the paradox.
