According to the New York State Department of Health, insomnia occurs frequently in HIV-infected patients and during all stages of HIV disease. They've shared a quick reference guide for primary care clinicians detailing screening and treatment guidelines.

If you're HIV-positive and suffering from insomnia, you should be aware that insomnia is a known side-effect of Sustiva (a medicine commonly used to treat HIV).
According to a study published in the Journal of the International AIDS Society, switching from Sustiva to Intelence led to fewer reports of nervousness, insomnia and abnormal dreams.
