Is co-sleeping one way of curing childhood insomnia?

We've already written about how important sleep is for children. A lack of sleep can lead to health issues such as obesity and heart disease. Other studies have found that preschoolers who sleep less than 10 hours in a 24 hour period are 25% likelier to misbehave and that almost 13% of 13 and 14 year old children who snored frequently when they were younger were in the lower quarter of their class academically.

Some parents find that co-sleeping with their children helps increase the amount of sleep their children get. However, child experts are divided over this practice. Whilst some believe that children are unable to deal with nighttime fears in their own beds (one study found that 73% of children aged 4-12 felt afraid at night), others say the dangers of rolling onto your child during the night outweigh any potential benefits.

It seems to us that the only people who can make the call on co-sleeping are parents themselves. Regardless of your choice, please don't ignore any sleeping problems your child may develop. There is a very real risk that they will only get worse into adulthood and sleep disorders can lead to a range of other conditions.
