If your insomnia is caused by an inability to switch off your brain, we have another form of meditation that may help you sleep.
This technique is known as belly breathing and should help you sleep by switching on the parasympathetic (calming) nervous system rather than the sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system.
All you need to do is place your hands on your lower belly, palms down. Then, breathe through your nose whilst counting slowly to three or four. As you breathe, feel your stomach rise with your hands. Breathe out just as slowly, allowing your belly to drop.
Repeat for as long as needed.
