Those weekend lie-ins are damaging your sleep during the week

New research suggests that weekend lie-ins are making us sleepier come the following week.

According to a study undertaken at UT Southwestern, when we sleep in we're delaying the brain's circadian rhythm (our internal body clock) which makes it more difficult to fall asleep the following day.

This then has the knock-on effect of making us feel even more groggy the day after that.

If you want to catch up on lost sleep, the best method isn't a nice long lie-in.

Instead, you should go to bed earlier than normal rather than staying in bed for longer than normal.

This will allow you to make up for any lost sleep without affecting your circadian rhythm.
