MSN Health & Fitness recently posted an article that listed 8 factors that could be keeping you up at night:
- Mental illness and stress
- Jet lag
- Shift work
- Hormonal changes
- Medical illnesses
To be honest, we're not sure that mental illness should be considered a separate factor from medical illnesses. Additionally, whilst we accept that these factors can indeed lead to insomnia (especially stress and depression), very often the underlying causes are far more complicated. If they weren't, insomnia wouldn't be such a big problem.
That being said, if any of these factors entered your life at the same time as your insomnia, at least you have a likely suspect that you can discuss with your doctor.
