Nearly 2 years ago I wrote about the benefits of yoga for postmenopausal women.
A more recent study has confirmed that yoga can improve sleep during menopause, but it also found that yoga is unlikely to alleviate hot flashes.
This newer study involved 249 women. Some of them practiced yoga three times per week for 12 weeks. Others simply continued their usual activities.
Although the number and intensity of hot flashes did go down in those following the yoga regime, there wasn't enough of a difference against the group who simply continued with their usual activity to determine statistical significance.
However, researchers did find that those who practiced yoga saw slightly greater improvements in sleep quality and insomnia symptoms (and fewer symptoms of depression) compared to the control group.
